Alex Neil’s side are making an active move to beat fierce Championship interest in a Sheffield Wednesday striker.
QPR are reportedly ready to green light a January transfer exit for midfield stalwart Sam Field amid interest from Championship rivals and MLS outfits.
The 27-year-old has made 195 appearances for the R’s since first joining on loan in February 2021 but has been in and out of the side this season. Field had, nonetheless, played 859 minutes of football across all competitions prior to Oxford United and remains a prominent member of the squad.
The midfielder has found himself behind the likes of Jonathan Varane and Nicolas Madsen in the pecking order under Julien Stephan. Football League World carries reports of a potential exit and names the leagues from which suitors are competing, but does not say who the clubs are.
Field signed a new contract at Loftus Road last summer but it’s unknown how long that deal is for. At the time, the midfielder said: “I’m really delighted. The club have come to me and I really appreciate that. I value that a lot, and I value being here. It’s been great for my development so I’m looking forward to repaying that.”
The former West Brom and Charlton Athletic man spoke about wanting more of a ‘leadership role’ in the squad at the time. He added: “I enjoy trying to help. I’m deemed an older player now, which is mental for me still, but it’s nice to take that responsibility and try to help other lads and recognise it’s not just about me, it’s about everyone else. If I can get a couple more percent out of everyone else, that helps me, that helps the team, it helps everyone.”
Millwall and Charlton Athletic in race for Sheffield Wednesday forward
Meanwhile, Millwall and Charlton Athletic have both been credited with interest in Sheffield Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri. Our sister site, The Star, reports of nine clubs competing to sign the 20-year-old. Cadamarteri has scored just two goals this season.
Scottish Premiership side Hibernian were reported to have had an offer for the forward turned down and it’s now understood that Swansea City, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, Luton Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Mansfield Town all have the Jamaica international ‘on their radar’.
In exciting news for Lions supporters, it’s added that Millwall are ‘actively pursuing’ a deal and could be frontrunners at this stage. It’s believed that a bid of between £750,000 and £1 million would be considered by Sheffield Wednesday.
