The reason? A scheduling clash with a high-profile Disney on Ice production, which secured Rod Laver Arena for that opening July weekend. With the Super Netball season shifted forward by a month to conclude ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Netball Australia officials had no choice but to pivot to the alternative venue in the Melbourne Park precinct. John Cain Arena, which hosted the 2023 grand final, boasts a capacity of more than 10,000 — still a world-class setting, though it means thousands fewer seats compared to Rod Laver’s potential.
Despite the venue change, excitement remains high. Melbourne’s status as Australia’s sporting capital, backed by strong support from the Victorian Government and Visit Victoria, helped secure the hosting rights once again — the third time in four years. The partnership promises to deliver an electric atmosphere for what’s become one of the country’s premier female sporting events. The league has sold out its grand final four years straight, drawing significant interstate travel (over 4,000 fans last year) and generating substantial economic benefits, including nearly $5.4 million for Victoria in 2025.
