Kelce became the latest Chiefs Kingdom member to defend Butker this week, standing up for his teammate in the face of cancellation-culture outrage. On the most recent episode of his and brother Jason’s New Heights podcast, the Kansas City tight end stated, ‘I’ve known him for even more years. I value him as a teammate. Pat (Mahomes) expressed it best: he is both a great person and a fantastic teammate. ‘He has always treated his family and the families I have introduced him to with respect and decency. And this is how he treats everyone.

‘I don’t believe he was speaking poorly of women, but he has his beliefs, which we all respect. I let (the media) into this room, and you have a lot of viewpoints that I disagree with.’ Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs quarterback, was keen to stress Butker’s good demeanour behind closed doors.

Defensive Tackle Chris Jones also wrote to Butker on X, “I love you @buttkicker7!” My brotha’. In addition to his teammates and head coach, Butker has received support from Tavia and Gracie Hunt, the wife and daughter of Kansas City owner Clark Hunt. Tavia, who married the Chiefs CEO in 1993, used Instagram to emphasise the value of motherhood and to emphasise that sharing a different point of view ‘doesn’t make them evil. ‘Affirming motherhood, thanking your wife, and emphasising the sacrifice and dedication required to be a mother is not discriminatory. It is encouraging to realise that a woman’s efforts in raising children are not in vain,’ she remarked.
