Bradford City Set to Snatch Star Defender from Black Cats – Fans Won’t Believe Who It Is!
The 18-year-old has been a standout for the Black Cats’ U21s throughout the 2023/24 season and is expected to be loaned out by the Championship club this summer, with the Bantams presently leading the battle to sign him.
Bainbridge has appeared in 20 Premier League 2 games for Sunderland this season, including starting in the club’s play-off final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur’s U21s on Sunday (26th May). During that time, Bainbridge has scored three goals, including a strike in a 4-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers U21s last month. He has also made Sunderland’s matchday squad in the Championship, but has yet to make his first-team debut.
The Bantams barely lost out on the League Two play-off places on the final day of the 2023/24 season and have already begun their summer recruitment with the acquisitions of Stockport County’s Antoni Sarcevic and Neill Byrne.
Bradford have also confirmed that left-back Liam Ridehalgh has been released after his contract expired, leaving a position to be filled. This vacancy might be filled by Bainbridge, allowing him to play regular first-team minutes in League Two next season. During his youth career, Bainbridge scored 14 goals in 80 appearances, indicating that he can produce in both sections of the pitch, which might be a key asset for Graham Alexander’s team.
According to Alan Nixon, Bainbridge is anticipated to be loaned out by Sunderland this summer in search of regular first-team play, with Bradford City leading the way, but they are not alone.
With the Bantams lacking in that position and Sunderland eager for its defender to play frequently, Bradford appear to have a good chance of signing the 18-year-old this summer.
