Ohio State football wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is already garnering praise from those within the program as they prepare for the upcoming season. Despite being just a freshman, Smith has made a strong impression. On Friday, Buckeyes co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, among others, spoke highly of Smith’s performance, highlighting his potential and early impact on the team.
Smith was a five-star recruit and was ranked as 247 Sports’ No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He chose to commit to the Ohio State football program over other top schools like Miami, Florida State, Florida, USC, and Georgia.
“He has a lot of tools, he works extremely hard,” Hartline said. “We’ve never had an Iron Buckeye from Coach Mick as a freshman—I don’t know about ever, but since I’ve been here.” He embodied everything that is a part of that conversation,” Hartline said via 247 Sports. “It’s not just lifting numbers or speed numbers. It’s the way you carry yourself, the way you train, the edge you have.

Given that they likely face off against each other in practice, Hancock has observed that Smith is “competing his butt off right now” while maintaining a “quiet” attitude.
