Championship newcomers Oxford United have secured Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old has appeared in 17 first-team matches for Spurs. Last season, he was on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship, where he didn’t score in 12 substitute appearances.
Scarlett’s signing follows Oxford’s 2-0 victory over Norwich City in their first game since their promotion from League One. Scarlett expressed his excitement about joining Oxford, stating, “The team performed exceptionally well last season, and I see a great opportunity here for myself. Oxford was the best place for me to prove myself and demonstrate what I can do.”
Scarlett briefly held the record as Tottenham’s youngest-ever player at 16 years and 247 days when he featured in a Europa League match against Ludogorets in November 2020. Oxford manager Des Buckingham praised Scarlett, saying, “Dane is an exciting young centre-forward, and we expect him to make an immediate impact. His goal-scoring ability, pace, and intelligence will be crucial for our attacking and pressing strategies.”
