Canterbury general manager Phil Gould wasn’t willing to enter any discussion around Jacob Preston’s ban as the Bulldogs star prepares to face the NRL judiciary.
Preston was slapped with a grade one charge for a crusher tackle on Titans skipper Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and is facing a three-match ban.
The club has entered a not guilty plea and now risks a four-match ban at the judiciary on Tuesday night. Preston has been a name consistently mentioned for the NSW Blues but the four-game suspension will rule him out of game one selection.
On Nine’s 100% Footy, Gould was asked how he was feeling about the case.
He simply tapped his pen and didn’t utter a word.
“There wasn’t a whole lot in it to be honest,” Cameron Smith said to break the silence.
“There was minimal pressure on Tino’s head, he gave space for his head to release. Tino got up and I’m pretty sure he took the next hit-up.”
Paul Gallen added “that’s very, very harsh” in reference to a potential four-match ban.
Gould did break his silence to reveal Fa’asuamaleaui spoke with the Bulldogs afterwards, seemingly in favour of Preston.
“He had a discussion,” he said.
Gould added he hasn’t spoken to Preston and confirmed he won’t be going to the judiciary with a trademark sarcastic answer.
“I think that would do him real good if I went to the judiciary, wouldn’t it?” he smirked.
“Do you think they’d really like to welcome me down there?”
