Young forward Oskar Smartt has signed a two-year contract with WAFL club East Fremantle Sharks, following his axing from the Essendon Bombers AFL list in September.
Smartt was selected with Pick 17 in the 2025 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, following his time in the Bombers’ VFL system, beginning in 2024.
He played in four games for Essendon this year, making his debut against the Tigers in Round 18. His best performance came against the Giants, where he had nine disposals with three behinds.
The 19-year-old also played 24 games in the VFL, where he kicked 23 goals across that stint, highlighting his potential to thrive at state level in Western Australia for the Sharks.
“We’re excited to welcome Oskar Smartt to the blue and white from Essendon for 2026 & 2027,” East Fremantle’s club statement read.
“A combative small forward at 180cm tall and 20 years old with serious x-factor, the Bendigo Pioneers product brings skill, energy and a fierce competitive edge to East Fremantle.”
