Parramatta Eels are entering one of the most dramatic roster rebuilds in recent club history, and the departure of star winger Zac Lomax has forced head coach Jason Ryles into major decision-making mode. Lomax, who was granted an immediate release despite signing a long-term deal, played only 19 games for the Eels but earned a sizeable $650,000 salary—money the club now intends to reinvest aggressively.
With a long list of departures, expiring contracts, and shifting priorities, the Eels find themselves with both opportunity and pressure. According to internal discussions, the focus is shifting toward replacing Lomax immediately while also preparing for a significant recruitment push for the 2027 season.
Bailey Simonsson remains the most natural short-term option on the wing. Contracted until 2027, he has proven himself a dependable, hard-working carrier willing to take tough metres when needed. Jordan Samrani is another exciting contender after a breakout 2025 season, while the future of young gun Richard Penisini remains uncertain as contract talks continue.
However, the real headline target is none other than powerhouse forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona. After being granted an early release from his Melbourne Storm contract, the 29-year-old instantly became one of the most intriguing names on the market. His past working relationship with Ryles adds fuel to the fire, and many believe he could fill a crucial gap in Parramatta’s middles.
Still, his discipline issues remain a talking point. Asofa-Solomona’s physicality is unmatched, but frequent suspensions have raised concerns. One fan wrote, “The aggression is great, but can he stay on the field when it matters? That’s the real question.” Another supporter countered, “Give him structure and belief under Ryles—he could become unstoppable.”

If the Eels decide against Asofa-Solomona, they could pivot toward a massive recruitment sweep for 2027. Names like Keaon Koloamatangi, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, and rising playmaking talents such as Tyran Wishart and Jaxon Purdue are already linked to Parramatta’s long-term plans.
