CASTLEFORD TIGERS have begun work which will lead to the installation of a new 4G training pitch next to their OneBore Stadium home.
The surface will replace a previous grass pitch, allowing for greater use of the facility by all of the club’s various teams.
Ground was broken last Monday, with a tarmac surface around the new pitch currently being laid down.
The artificial grass itself will be installed next month while the full project, including new fencing, lighting and power cables, should be complete by early January.
Martin Jepson, who took ownership of Castleford in May after joining the club’s board in late 2023, has made improving their facilities a priority.
Tigers CEO Danny Wilson said: “This latest project is a clear demonstration of how the club’s new leadership is driving change both on and off the field.”
Castleford plan to redevelop the adjacent main stand of the stadium, which would be all-seater and include improved player facilities as well as a banqueting suite and hospitality boxes.
However, this is not expected to begin before next autumn at the earliest as the club work to finalise the necessary funding.
Last year, seats were installed in the opposite Princess Street stand and other upgrades, including a new screen and LED boards, were made, which boosted the club’s grading score.
The new training pitch should help incoming head coach Ryan Carr as the Australian prepares to take charge of a Castleford side which has finished 11th, 10th and 11th in the past three Super League seasons under six different bosses.
