Castleford Tigers have confirmed the immediate departure of fullback Tex Hoy, leaving fans shocked by the unexpected news.
The 26-year-old Australian joined the West Yorkshire side from Hull FC in April 2024, initially on a short-term deal before securing a two-year contract following a string of impressive performances. During his time at Castleford, Hoy made 35 appearances, scoring 13 tries and kicking 20 goals, becoming a reliable figure in the Tigers’ backline.
However, following the club’s recent acquisition of Canterbury Bulldogs fullback Blake Taaffe, Hoy’s position appeared increasingly uncertain. With promising youngster Fletcher Rooney also rising through the ranks, competition for the fullback role intensified, ultimately paving the way for Hoy’s exit.
A source close to the club told League Express that the decision was mutual, aimed at allowing Hoy to explore new opportunities while giving Castleford flexibility in their roster planning.
