Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl has spoken publicly for the first time since his departure from Hillsborough this summer, sparking mixed reactions from the Owls’ faithful.
In an interview reflecting on his time in charge, Röhl struck a positive tone, insisting he holds fond memories of his spell with the club. “If you ask me now, I had a great time as manager in Sheffield,” Röhl said. “I love the fans, I love my players, I even love our [training] facility.”
However, his words have quickly divided opinion among supporters. Many fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustrations, questioning the sincerity of some of his comments. One fan wrote: “Didn’t he once complain about the training ground not being good enough? Now suddenly he loves it? Can’t take him seriously.”
Others expressed anger at the timing of his exit, accusing Röhl of abandoning the club during a crucial stage of their rebuild. “He walked away when we needed him most,” another supporter said. “Don’t come back now with kind words.”

Yet, not all responses were negative. A section of Wednesdayites chose to thank the German coach for his efforts, recalling how he brought stability and belief to the squad during a difficult period. “He wasn’t perfect, but he gave us structure and some good football. I’ll always respect him for that,” one fan posted.
Röhl’s departure remains a sore point, and while his latest comments aimed to show affection for the club, they have instead reopened debate among a fanbase still grappling with disappointment.
For Sheffield Wednesday, the focus now lies firmly on the future — but the memory of Röhl’s tenure continues to stir strong emotions.
