Former Parramatta Eels young gun Blaize Talagi has launched a stunning attack on the club after confirming that walking away was the “best decision” of his career.
Talagi, a highly-rated Cabramatta junior who made his NRL debut for the Eels back in March, opted against taking up the option to extend his stay with the club. Instead, he has chosen to seek new opportunities elsewhere — and now he has lifted the lid on why.
In a candid statement, Talagi revealed his frustrations with what he described as “broken promises” behind the scenes. “I made the decision to leave and I don’t regret it,” Talagi said. “So many things happened at the club that people don’t know about. There were promises made that weren’t kept, and I’m not the kind of guy to just sit around and watch. Leaving was my best ever decision.”
The 20-year-old’s comments have sparked debate among fans, with some expressing disappointment over how one of the Eels’ brightest prospects has slipped through their fingers. Others, however, have praised Talagi for standing up for himself and taking control of his career.
One fan posted online: “It’s heartbreaking to see Blaize go, but the fact that he’s speaking out shows just how much work the club needs to do to fix its culture.”
The Eels have yet to publicly respond to Talagi’s remarks, though insiders suggest the club will be frustrated at losing a player many believed had the potential to become a long-term star.
For Talagi, however, the decision is final — and he insists his focus is now firmly on the next chapter of his rugby league journey.
