49ers awarded 5 compensatory picks for the 2024 NFL Draft
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the NFL has allocated compensatory picks for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers have been awarded a significant number of selections. The Niners’ new acquisitions include five picks:
- A third-round pick, designated as pick 36, and overall selection number 99.
- A fourth-round pick, labeled as pick 33, and overall selection number 132.
- A fifth-round pick, identified as pick 41, and overall selection number 175.
- Two sixth-round picks, one designated as selection number 36 and pick 211 overall, and the other as pick 40 and selection number 215 overall.
The third-round pick is attributed to Ran Carthon and DeMeco Ryans from the previous year, while it’s speculated that the fourth-round pick is linked to Jimmy Garoppolo, although alternatives such as Samson Ebukam, Jimmie Ward, Azeez Al-Shaair, and Emmanuel Moseley exist.
According to Over the Cap, the cancellation of Mike McGlinchey’s contract by Javon Hargrave’s contract, and likewise for Charles Omenihu and Sam Darnold, has led to the nullification of potential compensatory picks for the Niners. Additionally, potential seventh-round picks for Daniel Brunskill and Hassan Ridgeway were annulled due to contracts for Isaiah Oliver and Clelin Ferrell.
