This summer, Los Angeles has made an unsuccessful attempt to improve their roster. But one name has always been associated with them: Portland Trail Blazers veteran forward Jerami Grant. The Lakers’ reluctance to part with more than one first-round draft selection for Grant has been the main obstacle to any trade.
Many think that Grant’s 3-and-D ability would make him a valuable addition to the Lakers’ squad.
Among interested teams, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has ranked the Lakers as the worst fit for Grant in a trade.
Though there has been much speculation this summer linking Grant to the Los Angeles Lakers, it doesn’t seem like a smart use of their limited trade assets. Rui Hachimura is four years younger, earns around half as much, and may have produced more during the previous season.”
Accepting Grant would also entail accepting his enormous contract. In addition to his anticipated $29.7 million this season, he still has three years remaining on his contract. Every season sees a rise in his pay, and in his last year, at 33, he will receive $36.4 million.
Grant would provide defence and 3-point shooting to the group, but Hachimura was a huge asset to the Lakers in the previous campaign. The seasoned forward scored 21.0 points on average.
