Washington has secured the services of James Pierre, a cornerback with the potential to significantly impact their special teams unit, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports. Pierre, who initially joined the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020 with the Steelers, has maintained a consistent presence on the field, featuring in a minimum of 16 games each season for the past four years. In the 2023 season, he contributed eight total tackles across 16 appearances. Notably, Pierre was actively involved in Pittsburgh’s special teams, participating in 60 percent of their snaps in that regard, while his defensive involvement was limited to just two percent of snaps.

Throughout his career thus far, Pierre has accumulated a tally of 94 total tackles, along with eight passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery, spanning 66 games, during which he has started six times. This signing represents a strategic move by Washington to bolster its special teams unit and potentially provide additional depth in defensive situations. With Pierre’s track record of consistent appearances and his demonstrated proficiency in special teams play, Washington aims to leverage his skills to enhance their overall performance on the field.
