Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Ernie Weaver has moved quickly to calm growing speculation about a potential reunion with his former boss Danny Rohl at Rangers, insisting he remains fully committed to the Owls for the foreseeable future.
Rangers officially confirmed the appointment of Danny Rohl as their new manager last week, a move that immediately fueled rumours of a possible raid on his former club, Sheffield Wednesday. Among the names strongly linked was Weaver, who flourished under Rohl’s management last season and became a key figure in the Owls’ midfield.
Reports in Scotland suggested that Rohl had identified Weaver as a top target for the January transfer window, viewing him as the perfect fit for his high-energy, tactical setup at Ibrox. However, the 25-year-old has now spoken out to dismiss the speculation and reassure Wednesday fans that he has no intention of leaving Hillsborough — at least not anytime soon.
In an interview following the club’s training session this week, Weaver made his stance clear:
“I’ve seen all the talk, and honestly, it’s flattering. Danny is a great manager who helped me a lot, but right now, this is not the right time to move. I’m fully focused on Sheffield Wednesday and on helping the team climb the table. The fans have always supported me, and I owe it to them to give my best.”
Weaver’s comments come as a major relief to the Wednesday faithful, who have been anxious about losing another key player amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding the club’s ownership and financial struggles. His leadership and consistent performances have made him one of the most trusted figures in the dressing room, especially during turbulent periods both on and off the pitch.
