Celtic, like Rangers, HAD to be able to leave their stamp on Europe, even with some of the biggest salary budgets in the Champions League.

Jim White expressed this opinion while reciting the Hoops’ string of crushing losses in Europe’s top league following their 7-1 thumping at the hands of Borussia Dortmund. Despite Brendan Rodgers’ team having a spotless domestic record thus far this season, the Premiership’s standard has come under fire after the crushing, but talkSPORT host White maintained that Scottish football shouldn’t be held accountable.

When talking about Celtic, the host remarked, “It’s the second 7-1 loss he’s had at the club.” That comes after victories of 5-0, 6-0, and 7-0. They gave up twice in three minutes against Lazio in Rome and three times in seven minutes in a 6-0 loss to Atletico Madrid during the previous season.

Fellow host Simon Jordan conceded ground on the issue – but insists the likes of Manchester City’s £400m wage bill ultimately makes the difference: “It can be done. Absolutely it can be done.

“But we do know that the economic might of football clubs does determine more often that not outcomes and we do know that there is a common metric that says, the bigger your wage bill, the more likely you are to be higher up the league. If you’ve got a wage bill of £400million like Manchester City have got, you’re likely to have better players and a better team.”
