Former England international Jesse Lingard has spoken out on the turmoil at Sheffield Wednesday, declaring his continued affection for the club while sympathizing with frustrated fans.
Lingard, who has previously been linked with a move to Hillsborough, revealed that he has been keeping a close eye on the Owls’ situation. With protests mounting against owner Dejphon Chansiri and supporters demanding urgent changes, Lingard admitted that he shares the belief that the club should be in a much stronger position.
“The club deserves better and should be way ahead of where it is now,” Lingard said. “I love the club, I still feel part of the club, and I just wish everyone involved will come to an agreement to do what is right.”
Fans have staged demonstrations outside Hillsborough in recent days, voicing their anger at the financial issues, transfer restrictions, and instability that have clouded the start of the season. Many supporters have been chanting for Chansiri to step down, insisting the club needs fresh leadership to move forward.
Lingard’s comments will strike a chord with those fans, as the 31-year-old midfielder expressed both his admiration and his concern for the club’s direction. “The Sheffield Wednesday fans have been protesting for days, and they want the owner out of the club,” he added. “It’s clear they just want the best for the team they love.”
