The fallout from Marc Guehi’s failed transfer to Liverpool has taken another twist, with former teammate Wilfried Zaha speaking out in defense of the England defender.
Guehi, who has been a loyal servant to Crystal Palace since his move from Chelsea in 2021, was strongly linked with a switch to Anfield this summer. However, despite weeks of negotiations, the deal collapsed, leaving many fans frustrated at how the club handled the situation.
Critics have pointed out that unlike other high-profile players — such as Alexander Isak at Newcastle United or Viktor Gyökeres at Sporting Lisbon — Guehi never forced a move or created unrest behind the scenes. Instead, he remained professional throughout, which has sparked anger among supporters who feel Palace should have rewarded his loyalty by allowing the transfer to go through.
Now, Zaha, who played alongside Guehi at Palace before his own move to Galatasaray, has added his voice to the debate. Speaking candidly, he said:
“I know Marc so well and I know he will not be happy with everything that happened. He is someone who will not make trouble and will stay quiet, but it’s not fair if you ask me. He gave everything for the club, and the least they could do was to show respect and make the deal happen.”
When asked about the future, Zaha remained cautious but hopeful: “If this comes up again in January or the summer, I don’t know. But if it resurfaces, then I hope they do what is right and let him go.”
With January looming, Guehi’s situation will no doubt continue to dominate headlines, and Zaha’s comments have only intensified the spotlight on Palace’s handling of one of their star defenders.
