Cadillac returned to the endurance racing scene in 2023, but it’s set to shake things up even more in 2025. This move could signal an evolution in its Formula 1 power unit program. Starting in 2025, the General Motors brand will partner with Hertz Team JOTA for a two-car, multi-year effort in the World endurance championship hypercar program.
When Cadillac announced its return to endurance racing via the World Endurance Championship, it did so with Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR). The partnership made sense in many ways: Both Cadillac and CGR are American companies looking to strengthen their presence in the international motorsport marketplace.
However, at the start of 2024, it was announced that the two entities would be parting ways at the end of the year. Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti is expected to take over Cadillac’s IMSA SportsCar Championship program, while Cadillac’s WEC plans have just been confirmed.
Starting in 2025, Cadillac will partner with the United Kingdom-based privateer Hertz Team JOTA, which could have a significant impact on Cadillac’s prospective Formula 1 program. JOTA has been a regular player in international endurance racing for decades, though it only recently expanded to a Hypercar program. During negotiations for 2024, JOTA reached out to Cadillac, and that approach has now paid off.
