Castleford Tigers Appoint New Director of Rugby Amid Major Backroom Overhaul

Castleford Tigers have appointed Chris Chester as their director of rugby.

The former Hull KR and Wakefield Trinity head coach had held the same role at Leigh Leopards since 2021.

Chester’s appointment comes after Martin Jepson completed his takeover of Tigers, who lie 10th in Super League, on Saturday.

“I am delighted to welcome Chris to the club. His pedigree speaks for itself, and I look forward to working with him in the coming years,” Jepson told the club website.

He joins the Tigers having been in that role at Leigh Leopards where he oversaw the most successful time in their history over a three-and-half year stay.

Bringing a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of the game, Chester will be responsible for recruitment and overseeing the effective delivery of the club’s performance pathway and integrated structure within the club’s vision.

Joining Leigh in 2021, he steered the club to Super League in 2022 and saw huge success with their Rugby League Challenge Cup victory in Golden point during 2023.

Chesters appointment allows Danny Wilson to move into the Chief Executive Officer role at the club. Danny comments “It’s fantastic to be able to attract Chris to join us at Castleford Tigers and his experience and track record in this role is another step forward in the clubs journey. It is a brilliant time for him to join Castleford following Martins announcement to take full control and his desire to get the club back to where it belongs”

Martin Jepson comments on both appointments “I am delighted to welcome Chris to the club. His pedigree speaks for itself, and I look forward to working with him in the coming years. His appointment allows Danny to move into the Chief Executive role and take a more strategic position within the club.

I congratulate them both and wish them every success as we strive to rebuild the club’s fortunes on and off the field.

I will be making more announcements about the structure of the Board in the next few weeks”
