ROBBIE MULHERN has revealed that he is ‘focused’ on having a big year for Leigh Leopards after being linked with a move to Castleford Tigers as well as the NRL.
League Express reported in December that Castleford had set their sights on the 31-year-old prop following a stellar number of years at the top of the league.
Mulhern has made 78 appearances for the Leopards since making the move from Warrington Wolves ahead of the 2023 Super League season.
But, could 2026 be his last? The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign.
“I’ve not thought about that, I’m focused on this year and we’ve not even played a game yet,” Mulhern told League Express.
“I’m sure that will work itself out in due course but at the minute I’m focused on playing for Leigh.”
Would Mulhern want to stay at Leigh?
“I would, but whatever happens will happen.
“This if my fourth year here now and I’m keeping an open mind so I’m not sure what will happen.
“If I do end up staying then that’s great but if I don’t then that’s sport at the end of the day.”
The England international has also been linked with the NRL in recent months.
“The NRL would be great, playing over there would be amazing but I don’t know if that was just paper rumours.
“If something materialised then that would be great but I’m more than happy staying over here.”
The 31-year-old began his career with Leeds Rhinos, debuting in 2014 but went on to make only five appearances before heading for pastures new at Hull KR.
At Craven Park, Mulhern made 90 appearances over a five-year spell with his performances earning him a big move to Warrington.
47 appearances later and the Ireland international was snapped up by Leigh – where Castleford’s current director of rugby, Chris Chester, was responsible for his signing.
