Clippers Lock Down Tyronn Lue with Massive $14 Million Annual Contract!

Lawrence Frank, the Clippers’ President of Basketball Operations, did not reveal any details when he announced the new deal on Wednesday. According to ESPN, the new contract is worth approximately $14 million per year until the 2028-29 season, citing unnamed sources.
“T Lue is everything we want for in a head coach. “He’s a brilliant tactician and natural leader with an exceptional ability to connect with those around him, both players and staff,” Frank said in a statement. “We were grateful to hire T Lue four years ago, and we feel just as lucky now. There is no one we would rather have as our team’s coach. T Lue is a backbone of the organisation and will remain so for a long time. Lue has a 184-134 record over four seasons, including three postseason appearances and the franchise’s first trip to the Western Conference finals in 2021. The Clippers finished 51-31 last season, winning the Pacific Division title for the third time in franchise history.
Lue led Cleveland to the 2016 NBA championship alongside LeBron James, who left for the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency two years later. Lue was fired after a 0-6 start following James’ departure from the Cavs. He had dismissed speculation that he might be a candidate for the job of coaching James with the Los Angeles Lakers after Dallas ended the Clippers’ season in the opening round. “I didn’t come in to bounce around, go all over the place,” Lue remarked at the time. “They have all been wonderful to me. Just having a terrific relationship with the owner and the front office. It’s great. I would love to stay here for a long time.”

Lue worked as an assistant for Doc Rivers with the Clippers before taking over when Rivers and the team parted ways at the end of the 2019-20 season. Rivers wound up in Philadelphia. “This is where I want to be.” “I’ve enjoyed coaching this team for the past four years, and I’m excited to embark on a new era at Intuit Dome,” Lue said. Lue was an 11-year NBA veteran who won two championships with the Lakers in 2000 and 2001.
