The Dallas Cowboys recently made a huge move to improve their roster ahead of the 2025 season, and one analyst believes they could make another with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Cowboys had a dire need at wide receiver entering the offseason, and after failing to address it in free agency and the draft, Dallas traded for now-former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout, George Pickens.
Assuming he can keep his head on straight, Pickens offers a massive upgrade for the Cowboys and gives Dak Prescott one of the best one-two punches at wide receiver in the NFL when combined with CeeDee Lamb.
While that’s certainly a start, Dallas is going to need to do more if it wants to compete in one of the best divisions in the NFL.
Knowing that, one analyst, Last Word on Sports’ Anthony Palacios, is predicting the Cowboys will pull off a blockbuster trade with the Bengals for star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson.
“Meanwhile, it’s a long shot, but the Dallas Cowboys should do the unthinkable move and trade for Trey Hendrickson,” he wrote. “They’re still waiting to extend Micah Parsons, but if that falls through, many should expect Dallas to trade for a capable defender like Hendrickson. Despite signing Dante Fowler Jr this offseason, the Cowboys would be over atop all levels with the presence of the sack leader.”
Hendrickson remains in a standoff with the Bengals, and the situation has gotten so bad that he has publicly spoken out against Cincinnati on three different occasions this offseason. At this point, a trade seems inevitable.
Hendrickson is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL. Not only did he lead the league in sacks last season with 17.5, but his 35 over the past two years are more than any other edge rusher in the NFL.
Pairing Hendrickson with fellow star Micah Parsons would no doubt take Dallas’ defense to another level, and one that would truly allow the team to compete against the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders.
The problem, of course, is the money.
While Dallas can fit Hendrickson’s 2025 salary in, the team does not have a great financial situation over the next few years, so inking the four-time Pro Bowler to the big extension that is likely to be worth somewhere around $35-$40 million annually will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
And that’s especially true when you consider the fact that Parsons still has to be extended, also.
But, if the Cowboys can make it work with some creative accounting, Jerry should absolutely pull the trigger on such a deal.
