Earlier this week, Washington Capitals defenceman Matt Roy announced was stepping away from the team due to “personal reasons”. Though the reason for his absence was unclear, new reports uncover a heartbreaking personal tragedy.
It’s with great sadness we report that Matt Roy and his wife, Linsey, unfortunately lost their baby due to a miscarriage.
The official announcement was made via Instagram.
“Earlier this week we said goodbye to our baby girl. A very surprising, unexpected and incredibly wanted natural pregnancy..met with an equally shocking and devastating loss. I choose to share our family growing journey in hopes it helps even one person feel less alone. Less isolated. Less pain. Loss after living children still sucks. It hurts not being able to give Nico this sibling we were hoping for.”

According to RMNB, the Roy family, who welcomed their first child in January, has experienced this pain three prior times before – something that no couple should have to endure.
In a 2023 Instagram post, Linsey opened up about experiencing a similar heartbreak — and time hasn’t made it any easier.
«With each loss, we lost not just our baby, but all the visions, hopes and dreams that came with each one,» Linsey wrote in October 2023. «It’s easy to say my mind, body and soul are forever changed because of what we’ve been through. Life looks different, priorities look different, self-care looks different, and my support system has grown tenfold.»
How tragic!
While this is a heartbreaking time for the Roy family, it’s uplifting to see Linsey finding strength in sharing her story — hoping her message can help even just one person.
