Commanders Star Projected to Sign Contract With Las Vegas Raiders

The Washington Commanders are facing the departure of several defensive players as they approach the free agency market. Notably, Kendall Fuller and Kamren Curl are among those potentially seeking new teams for the upcoming 2024-25 season or negotiating fresh contracts with the Commanders. Fuller, in particular, stands out as a sought-after cornerback, holding the distinction of being ranked as the top cornerback available by PFF. Brad Spielberger of PFF speculates that the Las Vegas Raiders could emerge as a potential destination for Fuller, given the considerable interest in his services.

Spielberger highlights Fuller’s advantageous position following the franchise tags placed on Jaylon Johnson and L’Jarius Sneed, which elevate Fuller to the forefront of the cornerback market this offseason. Fuller boasts a solid track record, having logged three consecutive seasons with over 1,000 snaps played and a coverage grade of at least 75.0. His versatility, having previously played as a nickel and safety, adds further appeal to potential suitors like the Cardinals and Raiders, both in need of experienced defensive presence.

Having previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West, Fuller brings a level of familiarity with the division to any potential landing spot.

Given his status as a premier free agent, Fuller is poised to command a lucrative contract this offseason. Despite earning a modest $8.5 million with the Commanders in 2023, his performance warrants a considerable pay raise. Spotrac projects Fuller to secure a substantial four-year, $54.5 million deal, placing him in the company of top cornerbacks such as Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Cameron Sutton.

For the Raiders, who possess approximately $42 million in available cap space, investing in Fuller makes strategic sense. The team struggled with defensive consistency in the previous season, with players like Marcus Peters underperforming, Nate Hobbs facing injury concerns, and Jakorian Bennett experiencing rookie struggles. Adding a player of Fuller’s caliber would address a clear need and bolster the Raiders’ secondary significantly.

Levi Damien of Raiders Wire identifies Fuller as the top free-agent safety target for the Raiders, citing his consistent production over the years, which includes nearly 12 pass breakups and three interceptions per season since 2017. Fuller’s postseason contributions, including an interception during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory in 2019, further underscore his value as a dependable and impactful defensive asset, making him an attractive prospect for teams like the Raiders seeking stability and reliability in their secondary.
