Tim Sheens leaves Wests Tigers to take a new rugby league role.

Following his departure as head coach from the Wests Tigers prior to the conclusion of his contract, Tim Sheens, renowned for his illustrious career in rugby league, has made a surprising return to the sport in a different capacity.

Having secured four premiership titles and having previously led the Australian Kangaroos, Sheens re-entered the scene in 2023 to mentor Benji Marshall at the Wests Tigers, signing a two-year deal. However, his tenure with the club was short-lived, spanning only one season.

Recognized as one of the most accomplished coaches in the sport’s history, Sheens’ coaching journey commenced in 1984, overseeing teams such as the Tigers, Penrith Panthers, Canberra Raiders, and North Queensland Cowboys, amassing an impressive record of 778 matches.

Additionally, his expertise extended to guiding various representative squads, notably the NSW Blues in 1991 and the Kangaroos from 2009 to 2015.

Now, it has been disclosed that Sheens has been enlisted as a consultant by Westfields Sports High School, a prominent institution renowned for its formidable schoolboy rugby league team.

Under the leadership of Lachlan Galvin, Westfield Sports High School clinched victory in the National Schoolboys Championships, triumphing over Palm Beach Currumbin with a scoreline of 38-4.

Speaking to Wide World of Sports, Sheens revealed the genesis of his latest role, stating, “I’ve known the school’s coach Troy Wheedon for some time and we started talking and one thing led to another.”

Embracing the opportunity, Sheens expressed enthusiasm for his new endeavor, which entails a three-day commitment per week. He remarked on the eagerness of the school’s aspiring athletes to absorb knowledge and develop their skills.
