Liverpool have done some early January business with a deal agreed to sign Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Vienna – but the Reds do not want to stop there as they look to add some top young stars to their ranks.
A deal is said to have been agreed to sign Ndukwe ahead of the summer as he is not able to officially move to Merseyside until he turns 18. Reports emerged from Austria that a deal was done with Fabrizio Romano confirming the move.
Liverpool are being linked to another young star with the Daily Mail reporting that an offer has been made to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday to sign left-back Yisa Alao.
Left-back is a position that Liverpool need to consider in the coming windows, despite signing Milos Kerkez in the summer. Club legend and Scotland captain Andy Robertson is out of contract this summer and as things stand it is unclear if he will even be offered a new deal at the club.
Arne Slot has mostly opted for Kerkez at left-back this campaign but the Hungarian has had a tough start to life at Anfield while Robertson has been called upon at times to help add more calm to the backline.
If he was to leave, it could lead to a return for Kostas Tsimikas who is currently on loan at Serie A side AS Roma. He is out of contract in 2027, however.
However, a deal for Alao could see the Reds add some more depth to the left-back position. They are not the only Premier League side interested, with rivals Manchester United also said to have made a £450,000 bid.
The 17-year-old is still to sign a professional contract at Wednesday which could make it easier to sign him as he remains on scholarship terms. The South Yorkshire club are in administration and have been deducted a total of 18 points this season. The situation at the club could see Alao bide his time as he considers his next move.
They are all-but relegated as they still have minus seven points, which puts them 32 points from safety with 22 games remaining.
Speaking on Alao after he played in a Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby, Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen said via The Star: “As soon as he came on, they tried to bring extra people to his side.
“But he grew through the battle and wow. One of the important skills you need to have as a young player is to adapt; to adapt to the level, to new players and to everything. It was really, really good.
“He is a great young player. Wow. We have to be very careful with him. Just to have a normal training week at a Championship level is very tough for him.”
