Massive Blow! Nathan Collins and Chiedozie Ogbene Unexpectedly Withdraw from Friendly Games!
Nathan Collins and Chiedozie Ogbene are both out of the Republic of Ireland’s forthcoming friendly doubleheader with Hungary and Portugal. Interim head coach John O’Shea will pick his squad for the games on Tuesday, but he will be missing Brentford centre-half Collins and Luton Town wideman Ogbene. Collins, who missed the Bees’ penultimate Premier League match against Newcastle United due to a knee injury, is unavailable, and Ogbene will be absent due to family obligations. The Boys in Green host Hungary at the Aviva on Tuesday, June 4, before facing Portugal in Aveiro a week later. Ireland’s opponents will both be in Germany for the Euros in June.
Ireland last played Hungary in a friendly in June 2021, which finished in a scoreless draw, and Portugal were group opponents in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. In March, O’Shea oversaw a respectable draw with Belgium before Switzerland won 1-0 in Dublin.
