The 2024 season is a huge one for the sporting calendar. One of the biggest events in four years, the Paris Olympics, will take place later this year. Athletes across the globe and across different sports are gearing up to participate and hopefully go home with a medal. Tennis is no exception, as stars like Maria Sakkari have already started putting a strategy in place for this event. However, she could receive a major blow and the reason is her compatriot, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Along with his singles commitments, Tsitsipas has also been focussing on doubles with the Olympics in sight. However, Sakkari made a shocking revelation about Tsitsipas that would prove costly for her dream in Paris.
Has Stefanos Tsitsipas pulled out of mixed doubles at the Olympics?
Recently, Sakkari appeared in a press conference at the Billie Jean King Cup. In an interview, she discussed her ambitions for the upcoming Olympic Games. She wants to play in all three formats, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. However, she feels that her compatriot, Tsitsipas, might potentially not play in the mixed doubles. Sakkari revealed, “It would be unfortunate if we don’t play but you have to ask him…”

Meanwhile, Sakkari and Tsitsipas are no strangers playing together. They were on the same side of the net last year at the Eisenhower Cup mixed doubles exhibition tournament at Indian Wells. Tsitsipas and Sakkari came out on top against Paula Badosa and Cameron Norrie. Later, Tsitsipas has also gone on to play mixed doubles with his girlfriend, Badosa.
