Surprise Move: Sunderland Sets Sights on League Two Star for Key Transfer!
Langstaff established himself as a goalscorer in the National League with Notts County. In 50 National League games, he has 41 goals. Despite his impressive record, several questioned if he could reproduce it in the NFL. Langstaff silenced his naysayers by scoring 28 goals in his first full season in League Two. He finished as the league’s leading scorer, four goals ahead of Paul Mullin and Matt Smith. According to WhoScored, he had an average rating of 7.0 this season. Langstaff’s xG/90 of 0.77 was the highest of any Notts County player who played more than 10 games.
Witcoop has identified Swansea City as a new team interested in Langstaff this summer. According to the Swansea Independent, Plymouth Argyle is also keeping an eye on the striker. The Sunderland Echo previously reported that Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Derby County, and Peterborough United were among the clubs keeping an eye on Langstaff. This occurred in January, but Witcoop stated that teams determined Langstaff might not be able to make the step-up. The ongoing interest implies that teams believe Langstaff is worth the risk.
Notts County has not said whether or not they intend to sell, or how much they will ask for. In January, the Sunderland Echo reported that the fee would be around £1.5 million. After his great goal-scoring season, Notts County may want more for him.
Langstaff still has three years left on his contract, which he signed last summer. The contract is slated to expire at the conclusion of the 2026/27 season and could assist Notts County get further funding for Langstaff.
