The football world is mourning the loss of Alan Little, a former player and manager, who passed away at the age of 69. Known for his no-nonsense, uncompromising style as a midfielder, Little was widely regarded as one of the toughest players on the pitch. Born in Horden in May 1955, he began his career at Aston Villa alongside his brother Brian, and while his brother went on to earn England caps, Alan carved out a solid career in the lower leagues.
After stints with Southend United, Barnsley, and Doncaster Rovers, where he enjoyed promotion success, Little joined Halifax Town in 1983, where he became a fan favorite for his leadership and dedication. His time at Halifax included memorable moments, such as taking over as goalkeeper during a match against Darlington in 1985.
Little later moved into coaching, where he achieved further success. As York City manager, he guided the team to promotion and delivered famous victories over Manchester United and Everton in the League Cup.
Alan Little’s contributions to football, both on and off the pitch, will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.
