Andrea Hurley Speaks Out Exclusively: Inside Her Decision to Reject the LA Lakers
Storrs, Connecticut (WFSB) – This week, UConn fans heaved a sigh of relief when Dan Hurley announced that he will remain with the Huskies. Andrea, his wife, is breaking her silence tonight on how they made the painful decision to decline the Los Angeles Lakers offer. ERIN: “Firstly, congratulations. Thank you. I believe I can speak for the whole UConn community when I say that everyone breathed a sigh of relief when we realised that you were staying in Storrs.”
ANDREA: “Yeah.” Yes, it was. It’s almost as if it’s not real, because of the feeling. It was emotional, and I’m about to cry. I am not going to cry. That was a lot. It was like, what? I mentioned that it was perhaps the worst week of my life. But, looking back, it will probably be the best. “It was truly the best week.”
ERIN: “Bring me back.” Where were you when you initially learned that the Lakers were interested in hiring Danny as their head coach? How did you react to that? ANDREA- “You know, in my thoughts, I’m telling myself that we’re leaving. Like we just accomplished something practically impossible, especially in the realm of college basketball. And we’re simply going to get up and leave, because you’re really good at this. Like, why? “Why, exactly?” ERIN: “What was it like getting the red carpet rolled out by the Lakers?”
ANDREA: “They sent their plane. The attention to detail made us feel truly welcomed and as if they wanted to be a part of our family as much as we wanted to be a part of theirs. And it was so sincere. And the way they are talking to us. It was as if I sat there and did nothing except cry.
