Aston Villa are considering a bold decision regarding summer signing Samuel Iling-Junior, with a potential loan move on the horizon before the transfer window closes. According to Express & Star, Villa are open to loaning out the England youth international, who joined the club from Juventus last month.
Iling-Junior, who was part of a high-profile double transfer from Juventus alongside Enzo Barrenechea, was notably absent from Villa’s squad for their opening Premier League match against West Ham United. This omission, combined with the intense competition for places in his positions, has led the club to contemplate a temporary move for the 20-year-old.
The left-wing back position at Villa is currently occupied by Ian Maatsen and Lucas Digne, while the attacking left side features Jacob Ramsey, Morgan Rogers, Emi Buendia, and John McGinn. With such competition, Iling-Junior may struggle for regular game time, making a loan move a viable option to gain the experience and playing opportunities necessary for his development.
Lewis Dobbin, another recent signing, has already been loaned out to West Bromwich Albion for the season. Iling-Junior could follow a similar path, as Aston Villa aims to ensure that their new acquisition gets ample playing time to continue his growth.
Iling-Junior’s departure from Chelsea’s academy in 2020, despite interest from major clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, eventually led to his move to Juventus. However, with only 45 first-team appearances and two goals at Juventus, the versatile young player will be eager to demonstrate his capabilities and prove his worth during a loan spell.
