Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Murphy Cooper has revealed he would be open to a Sheffield Wednesday return this summer.
Injury woes between the sticks have pushed Wednesday into the loan market on a number of occasions this summer and Cooper is among those to have been borrowed.
The 24-year-old linked up with the Owls midway through the winter window having seen his stint at Barnsley brought to a premature end.
He enjoyed a strong run of games in S6, deputising admirably until mid-February when he succumbed to an injury himself.
Cooper is now on the comeback trail but with Pierce Charles fit and available, he may have played the final game of his Wednesday loan.
However, in an interview with The Star, Cooper has admitted he would be open to making a Hillsborough comeback ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
He said: “Obviously, I’m a QPR player on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. I think my standpoint is that I absolutely love the club. I have only played seven games here and I have loved it. So I would be 100 per cent open to coming back – and that’s something I could definitely want to happen.
“But I think it’s difficult in my position. There might be a decision out of my hands. Obviously, I love QPR, I’ve been there for 15 years now, so it would be difficult to leave there. But if that decision was made, that I wasn’t part of their future, then I’d be looking here straight away.”
“I think, say, if I have a discussion with QPR and they say ‘you’re not going to play here, we’re looking at another loan’, then this would be the one and only club I’m looking at.
“I’ve got a great relationship with the fans and everyone at the club, and like I’ve said, I love living here, I love playing for this club.
“So, I think if that was the decision to be made that I needed another year out on loan, then I would definitely be hoping it would be here.”
Cooper has spent the entirety of his senior career on QPR’s books but has been afforded just two senior outings. Prior to his Barnsley switch last summer, the stopper had been loaned to Welling United, Bath City, Straford Town, Swindon Town and Stevenage.
Wednesday will be playing in League One next season having had their relegation from the Championship confirmed long ago.
A swoop for Cooper could prove tempting, especially considering a raft of clubs have been linked with the club’s current number one goalkeeper Charles.
